BLISTERING heat on Australia Day meant many families lucky enough to have a pool spent the day in the backyard while some searched for a cool venue.

The sprinkler feature at Tulmur Place was one of those and the Great Aussie Bites event added an extra reason to make the journey into the Ipswich city centre.

The usual food trucks rolled in, bands played and the most popular attraction was balloon twister Benji Smith from Raceview.

Most families got in the mood donning Aussie hats, shirts and even dresses.
