ABSTRACT art, and at times mixed media, is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead uses shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks and additional media’s to achieve the effect.

It is often seen as carrying a moral dimension, in that it can be seen to stand for virtues such as order, purity, simplicity and spirituality.

Since the early 1900s, abstract art has formed a central stream of modern art.

When Christine Reidy finds herself staring at a blank canvas, a single brushstroke just doesn’t feel enough.

It’s like trying to tell an epic story using only one word – that’s where mixed media can emerge, and it’s not just a technique, it’s a playground, a wild, beautiful mess where anything goes and everything is possible.

Christine takes much inspiration for her creations from the world around her.

With her work serving as a tribute to the intricate beauty and complexity of the natural world, and with a passion for capturing the essence of her surroundings, since the age of 8 she has had an artistic connection linked with a harmonious blend of mixed media and abstract techniques, with each piece resonating with texture and colour.

Christine’s work has a naive persona, with a childlike narrative that is integral to the style she wishes to convey.

Each piece designed to inspire and evoke emotion, encouraging a renewed appreciation for a modern take on her natural surroundings.

With her recent move to Ipswich last May, Christine has been quick to find her “tribe” with local art groups, allowing her to continue this self-taught passion, and is now a member of ArtsConnect Ipswich.

Prior to this, Christine called Logan home and was an active member of Logan Artists Association and has exhibited with Logan Art Gallery and Jugglers Art Space in Fortitude Valley.

The artistic journey for many includes the goal to have a solo exhibition and this is exactly what happened for Christine with her first successful solo exhibition in 2020.

She has works in private collections both in Australia and overseas.

Christine’s journey continues and is propelled by the desire to inspire others, to heighten awareness of the subtle yet profound beauty that nature offers.
