FOR Bob Wong, acupuncture isn’t just a profession – it’s a legacy.

A sixth-generation acupuncturist originally from the US, Mr Wong was first inspired by his father’s practice. But it was a personal journey to China for martial arts training that truly ignited his passion for traditional Chinese medicine.

“I decided to try Chinese medicine while I was there,” he recalls.

That decision led to eight years of rigorous clinical training at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, where acupuncture is considered a primary treatment method – on par with orthopaedics or cardiology in the West.

Now based in Australia and AHPRA licensed, Mr Wong brings more than 13 years of experience to his Ipswich practice, focusing on chronic pain conditions like sciatica, arthritis, frozen shoulder and back pain.

He also supports women’s health and fertility, with remarkable success stories – like helping a 67-year-old grandmother regain mobility after years of bone degeneration.

“Acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities,” he said. “It targets the root cause, not just the symptoms.”

Using ultra-thin, virtually painless needles on the lower limbs, arms and head, his treatments often bring relief from the very first session.

For those apprehensive about needles, Bob offers complementary therapies such as herbal medicine, cupping and acupressure, even providing home-care options to empower clients in their own healing.

Transparency and honesty underpin every aspect of his care.

“I look at each condition from multiple angles. If I don’t think it will work, I won’t waste your time or mine,” he said.

What Mr Wong loves most is seeing lives transformed.

“It’s not about the needles – it’s about giving people hope,” he says. “It’s about helping someone enjoy life again.”

His advice to anyone curious about acupuncture?

“Do your homework. Understand your treatment and choose a practitioner you trust.”

Mr Wong aims to help people reclaim both their health and their hope.
