IPSWICH is set to become the go-to destination for families looking to keep the kids entertained during the April school holidays with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities on offer.
Ipswich City Council Community and Sport Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen highlighted the range of options available to parents and carers throughout the city.
“There’s school holiday fun for all ages across the city,” Cr Madsen said.
“Once again, Ipswich Libraries will be hosting incredible school holiday programs with robot testing, build-a-bug, a bird show and more.”
All Ipswich Libraries branches will be taking part in the program, so whether you live in Rosewood or Springfield, head down to your local library and get involved.
“The ever-popular robot testing drop-in will be making a return, and kids can unleash their creativity at the Creative Claymation workshop,” Cr Madsen said.
“The program is jam-packed with exciting activities for all, but get in quick. Some activities require registration, or you can just show up to the many drop-in activities.”
For those who want to embrace the beautiful surrounds Ipswich has to offer, Council’s Active and Healthy program has a bunch of outdoor activities to get involved in.
“Kids can come along to learn how to fish or try children’s yoga,” Cr Madsen said.
“There are bush walks, mountain biking, bird walks and plenty of sports to keep them active too.
“Last year, we were blown away by the success of the Active and Healthy program, with hundreds of kids showing up to play a range of sports including basketball, rugby league, soccer and AFL.
“This year is set to be even bigger with even more sports included, such as wheelchair basketball.”
Cr Madsen also encouraged families to check out the Active and Healthy calendar on the Council’s website for the full list of activities and to head to ipswichlibraries.com.au for more information on school holiday programs.
Economic and Cultural Development Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine added that the Nicholas Street Precinct would be transformed into a real aquatic adventure this holiday season.
“Until this Friday (April 11), between 10am and 2pm, the interactive marine display tent will bring a variety of sea creatures to the heart of our city,” Cr Augustine said.
“Kids can meet hermit crabs, sea urchins and a starfish while enjoying activities, entertainment, and food trucks.
“It’s no secret that Nicholas Street Precinct hosts some of the best school holiday programs, attracting people from near and far.”
In addition to Hide and Sea at the Nicholas Street Precinct, the award-winning Bunk Puppets will return to Studio 188 with their new live shadow puppet performance, BUNKTOPIA.
“Everyday items will transform into quirky silhouettes in this imaginative showcase that’s entertaining for the whole family,” Cr Augustine said.
BUNKTOPIA will be on stage until April 17, with two sessions each day.
Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $10 for kids.
“Families always have an incredible time at the school holiday activities in the heart of Ipswich, and with three hours free parking in the precinct, there’s plenty of time to explore,” Cr Augustine said.
“Don’t forget to check out General Public for a round of arcade games or kick up your feet and enjoy a movie at Hoyts.”
