IPSWICH Basketball Association has released the results of its latest stakeholder survey, revealing widespread concerns among members about facilities, transparency and program delivery.
The survey, conducted earlier this month, drew just 225 responses – about 11 per cent of the association’s total membership – with many interpreting the low response rate as a sign of disengagement and a lack of confidence in the organisation’s leadership.
The survey was designed to guide Ipswich Basketball’s next three-year strategic plan, but instead highlighted growing dissatisfaction.
Many members expressed frustration over outdated facilities and slow progress on promised upgrades.
Performance concerns added to the discontent, with the Ipswich Force men’s team dropping out of playoff contention after a 92-85 loss to the Gold Coast Rollers in the final round, finishing eighth on the ladder.
The Lady Force program is also facing a major review, with calls for a coaching overhaul and stronger recruitment to return the team to playoff contention next season.
Facility issues dominated the feedback, with members calling for more courts and overdue stadium improvements.
Ipswich Basketball has secured a $2 million federal grant, first allocated in 2002, to address layout and safety issues, as well as a recent $5 million boost for further modernisation.
Two design options are being developed by Gibson Architects: one to build a new court and amenities beside Court 4, and another to expand Courts 1 and 2 with upgraded change rooms, canteen facilities and offices. Costings are underway to determine the best use of funds.
Concerns about the junior representative program also featured heavily, with members reporting a lack of fairness and transparency in player and coach selections, including claims of nepotism and favouritism.
As Ipswich Basketball prepares its strategic plan, pressure is mounting for more than just infrastructure improvements.
Members are demanding greater transparency, stronger community engagement and a fairer, more inclusive environment that better supports players, families, and the wider basketball community.
