THE Cyril Connell Ipswich Jets made a strong statement in the opening round of the U17 tournament on Saturday, securing a 32-10 victory over the Wide Bay Bulls at North Ipswich Reserve.

The Jets wasted no time, with Harlem Tamalii crossing the line in the first minute to set the tone.

Their attacking pressure continued as Samson Noffke (21’), Deniro Lui (26’) and Leo Briggs (29’) added to the scoreboard.

Despite some missed conversions, Ipswich held a commanding 16-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Brayden Watcho-Page (45’) extend the advantage, before Harrison Vidler struck twice in quick succession to seal the win.

Clement Karauti’s two successful conversions rounded out the Jets’ 32-point total.

The Jets now turn their attention to the Sunshine Coast Falcons, with their clash set for Sunday at midday at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Harvey Norman U17 Ipswich Jets women delivered a dominant 48-0 shutout against Wide Bay Bulls, showcasing their attacking firepower and defensive strength.

Hooker Tahli Flux opened the scoring in the 13th minute, followed by Dakota Gillespie (18’), Camry Soli (27’) and Amber Collins (29’), giving Ipswich a 22-0 half-time lead.

The second half saw Monica Tuala-Leaunoa (49’), Louretta Mataafa (52’) and Collins (53’) add to the tally, with Emilee George (56’) and Flux (58’) sealing the win.

The Jets will play the Sunshine Coast Falcons on Saturday at 10.40am at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
