THE Queensland Police Service has marked a major milestone, with more than 1,600 new officers deployed across the state in less than 18 months — including a significant boost for Ipswich.

A total of 96 new recruits have been assigned to the Ipswich district, strengthening the frontline presence in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.

The milestone follows the latest graduation from the Queensland Police Academy, pushing the total number of new officers to 1,625 since the State Government came to power.

Premier David Crisafulli said the additional officers were part of a broader plan to improve safety in communities like Ipswich.

“1,600 new police, straight to the frontline to help make Queensland safer,” he said.

“This is about backing our officers and restoring safety where you live.”

Ipswich has been identified as a key growth corridor, with population increases placing additional pressure on policing resources.

The deployment of nearly 100 new officers is expected to provide much-needed support to existing crews and improve response capacity across the district.

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing said the new intake would strengthen policing efforts across both metropolitan and regional Queensland.

“From busy urban centres to regional communities, these officers are critical to maintaining safety and supporting our frontline,” he said.

The newest recruits range in age from 24 to 52 and bring experience from a wide variety of professions, including teaching, defence, and corrective services. Others have relocated from overseas, adding to the diversity of the force.

While Ipswich has received a notable share, the statewide rollout has also bolstered major centres including Brisbane, Townsville and Far North Queensland, highlighting the scale of the recruitment effort.

The recruitment drive forms part of the government’s broader strategy centred on increased police numbers, legislative changes, and early intervention measures, with Ipswich among the regions now seeing a direct impact on the ground.
