BUSINESS leaders, unions and community groups will meet with government agencies and experts at a roundtable forum to address opportunities and shared economic challenges for Ipswich.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann will convene the Blair Economic Reform Roundtable on August 7 ahead of the Federal Government’s national Economic Reform Roundtable.

Mr Neumann said the roundtable would be conducted with the aim of unlocking new ideas to build a stronger economy in the region and develop ideas to feed into the national Economic Reform Roundtable, to be held in Canberra on August 19-21.

New Federal Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Daniel Mulino will be the keynote speaker, and will set out the Government’s broader growth and productivity agenda.

The event will bring together up to 50 participants from across Ipswich and the Somerset Region and beyond.

Mr Neumann said the roundtable would be guided by the Government’s 5-pillar productivity agenda around:

  • Creating a more dynamic and resilient economy;
  • Investing in renewables and the net zero transformation;
  • Building a skilled and adaptable workforce;
  • Harnessing data and digital technology; and
  • Delivering quality care more efficiently.

Regional Development Australia Ipswich West Moreton Chairperson and Ipswich Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic said the roundtable was a great opportunity to bring business representatives together.

“The crux of informed investment is co-ordination and collaboration with the community, so it is all the stakeholders we need to get insight from to focus on a bright future for our region,” Cr Jonic said.

“Jobs growth is ahead of the state, which is great news, but we are growing, so we need to all come together and discuss different outcomes so we are heading in the right direction.”

The Blair Economic Reform Roundtable will be held on August 7 from 10am at Jets Leagues Club.

Most participants will be invited, but anyone interested in attending can call 3201 5300 or email [email protected].
