THE City of Ipswich is set to ignite with adrenaline and excitement this month as the annual Festival of Horsepower returns.

The month-long celebration is packed with high-octane events for motorsport enthusiasts, racing fans, and families alike.

From world-class drag racing and thoroughbred horse racing to country-style trots and muscle car showdowns, there is no shortage of thrills for those with a need for speed.

One of the major highlights of the festival is the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, Australia’s largest drag racing event.

This action-packed spectacle will roar into Willowbank Raceway from Thursday to Sunday, June 5 to 8.

The event will feature flame-throwing Top Fuel and Nitro Funny Cars, delivering non-stop, edge-of-your-seat entertainment each day. Gates open at 8am, and in addition to the on-track excitement, visitors can enjoy a variety of family-friendly festivities off the track.

For fans of fashion, fun, and the noise of hooves storming home down the Bundamba track, the TAB Ipswich Cup offers a race day experience like no other.

Set to take place on Saturday, June 21, this iconic event is not only a key date on the racing calendar but also the social event of the year for the greater Ipswich region.

With a buzzing infield DJ, the popular Fashions on the Field competition, and an epic after-party, it’s a day that blends heritage and high spirits in perfect measure.

Families looking for a relaxed day at the races will enjoy the Western Star Family Race Day on Sunday, June 22 at the Marburg Showgrounds.

This community-focused event brings spectators close to the action with harness racing, while offering plenty of entertainment for the kids, delicious food options, and a chance to back a winner. It’s country-style racing at its very best, with gates opening at 11am.

The month finishes with a roar at 2 Days of Thunder, happening over the weekend of June 28-29 at Queensland Raceway. This massive Super Series racing event features a blockbuster line-up of vehicles, including Muscle Cars and Formula RX8s.

Off the track, spectators can enjoy trade stands, family-friendly entertainment, and a display of some of Australia’s most prestigious cars. It’s a full-throttle experience for the whole family.

With burnouts, wheel stands, drifts, racing, and more, the Festival of Horsepower brings an electrifying energy to Ipswich throughout June.

There’s simply too much to list – so visit Ipswich Festivals to explore the complete program and make the most of this exhilarating month.
