WE try not to be too downbeat here at Local News Towers but sometimes a sombre note has to enter our lives. This week brought one of those sombre times, as we paid our respects to the men and women who have given their lives for our country.
And it’s not the only cause for a little sadness. We report on a lunch for a network that is combating the high suicide rates in the Fassifern Valley and Scenic Rim region. Suicide is a problem that will not be going away any time soon but that doesn’t mean we should shrug and accept it. We personally can help those who need it – give the support that makes all the difference, be an ear for a friend’s troubles and encourage each other to speak up when it all gets too much.
You’re not alone, even if you think you are. There are people who will not turn you away. I’m one of them and our paper is here to support those who are here to help. Elsewhere we report on senior loneliness and the STAR Secret Santa program, which works to let seniors know that they are not abandoned or discarded.
On a more cheerful note, but still talking about loneliness, a fellow asked us to run a classified ad for him.
We don’t run classies so we were at a bit of loss what to do to help. We reached out to the fellow, but he didn’t want us to make a huge fuss.
So I’m going to run his classified right here. If you too want to find love, a companion or just someone to talk to, reach out to us at editor@localnewsgroup.com.au because we haven’t forgotten you.
Here’s the classified: Lone man in his 70s looking for female companionship. Phone John 0490 546 179
