THERE was a deep sense of gratitude and reflection in the room as members of the Queensland Country Womens Association West Moreton Division welcomed special guest Gail Rogers, CEO and Director of Nursing at Ipswich Hospice, to a recent meeting.
Ms Rogers shared moving insights into the day-to-day work of Ipswich Hospice — a place known not only for its expert palliative care but also for the deep compassion that surrounds every patient and family who walks through its doors.
She described the Hospice as a sanctuary, where the final chapters of life are treated with dignity, tenderness, and peace.
The QCWA ladies listened intently — for many, this wasn’t just a talk from a community leader. It was personal.
Several members shared stories of loved ones who spent their final days in the care of Ipswich Hospice.
The warmth in their voices and the tears in their eyes spoke volumes.
In a touching gesture of support, QCWA West Moreton Division presented Ms Rogers with a monetary donation to help support the ongoing work of the Hospice. They also gifted a collection of beautiful, handcrafted crocheted knee rugs — each one made with love, care, and the hope of bringing comfort to someone in need.
This year marks a special milestone for Ipswich Hospice — 30 years of service to the community. To commemorate the occasion, they held a Walk to Remember last Sunday, as they invited the community to reflect, remember, and honour those who have passed.
In June, the call goes out to all of Ipswich: “Turn Ipswich Purple.” From June 15 to 22, locals are encouraged to wear purple, host morning teas, and raise funds in support of the Hospice’s work. Every dollar raised helps ensure that this vital service can continue offering care, comfort, and dignity when it’s needed most.
As the meeting came to a close, one QCWA member summed it up perfectly.
“This is what community is about — caring for each other in life, and in death. Ipswich Hospice doesn’t just care for patients; they care for families, for memories, for love itself.”
