WE lost another great citizen when James Shapcott passed away last week.

The 81 year old former IGS student was involved in marketing for more than 60 years and had a colourful career including forays into politics.

He was said to be the man behind Lady Flo’s pumpkin scones marketing.

He also founded Wounded Heroes in 2007 and Jim’s Cafe in Bundamba is named in his honour.

Our thoughts are with his wife Elise of over 62 years, family and friends. RIP Jim.

Spring has sprung

IT’S hard to believe that winter is over and spring is here already.

Winter sports are coming to an end as summer sports start up with the days get warmer and longer.

Congratulations to the Ipswich Rangers open men’s team that won the Queensland Suburban Rugby Union “Normanby Cup”.

Netball is also over for the season and it was good to see a lot of friends, family and supporters on hand to watch the finals and presentations to the finalists on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Aztecs who beat Brothers on the open final.

Well done to Ipswich Netball administration, players and clubs on another great season.

Rugby League finals

The Ipswich rugby league season is also coming to the pointy end with finals over the next two weekends.

On league what a great effort this year from the powerhouse Ipswich State High boy’s rugby league teams to make the finals.

The grade eight team and open reserve grade teams were victorious while the open team went down in the Allan Langer Cup in a thriller 16-12.

It was another amazing season for the school which now ranks as one of the best rugby league nurseries in the country.

Cricket back in play

The Ipswich cricket season launched on the weekend with the Hornets representative sides playing already with the men clocking up a big win.

The Cambrian Choir in rehearsals for their next theatre restaurant show.

The Cambrian Choir have theatre restaurant performances of their home grown play “Oh what a Knight” over the next two weekends.

I dropped in to the last rehearsal and the costumes and performance looks amazing.

Celebrating 100 years

Finally, McNamara Law recognised their centenary in business.

It was inspiring to hear Rebekah’s story to become a director of the company along with fellow directors

Peter and Jeremy. Best wishes for the next 100yrs.
