IPSWICH State High School has once again shown why it’s considered an elite rugby league nursery, with all three of its boys’ teams claiming victories over Redcliffe State High School this week.
Despite being heavily undermanned, the Year 10 Walters side opened the winning run with a gutsy 16-12 win.
Coach Harris said he was proud of the team’s resilience under pressure.
“The team had nine unavailable players,” he said. “Yet the boys produced a real gutsy victory. I was very proud of their efforts.”
The Reserve Grade Langer Cup team continued the momentum, defeating Redcliffe 22-12 after setting the tone early with a strong first half.
“The boys started the game well, getting out to a 16-6 lead at halftime,” said coach Jonathan Dore.
“The second half presented a challenge, as an injury to an opposing player necessitated a field change. I was proud of the boys for dealing with the adversity and closing out the win.”
The Open’s Langer Cup team rounded out the day with another 22-12 win, holding strong in a physically intense clash.
Coach Josh Bretherton praised his side’s effort, particularly their defensive commitment late in the game.
“It was an outstanding win against a tough opposition – they were very physical in the middle,” he said.
“I’m so proud of our goal line defence late in the game.”
