FOR more than 150 years, the Ipswich Show has been a beloved tradition, bringing together generations of locals to celebrate the city’s heritage, culture and community spirit.
From thrilling rides and live entertainment to agricultural showcases and family-friendly attractions, the event is a highlight on Ipswich’s annual calendar, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
For many Ipswich families, the Ipswich Show is an annual tradition that holds a special place in their hearts.
The Jensen family from Yamanto have attended every year for more than a decade.
“The Ipswich Show is a big deal in our house,” said Sarah Jensen, who brings her three children along each year.
“The kids love the animals, the showbags and the fireworks – it’s something they look forward to for months.”
In support of this iconic event, Ipswich City Council has reaffirmed its commitment, endorsing a $35,000 sponsorship for the 2025 Ipswich Show, which will take place from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the show continued to play a vital role in connecting the city’s urban and rural communities while providing a platform to celebrate local talent and traditions.
“The Ipswich Show is more than just an event – it’s a reflection of our city’s identity and a place where families, businesses, and creatives come together,” Cr Harding said.
“It’s a chance to honour our agricultural heritage, support local businesses and performers, and showcase the incredible skills of our community. Whether you’ve lived here for generations or just moved to Ipswich, the show is a wonderful way to be part of something truly special.”
For Ben Carter, a Ripley resident who grew up in Ipswich, the show is about passing down family traditions.
“I remember coming here as a kid, and now I get to bring my own children,” Mr Carter said.
“They get just as excited about the woodchopping and the rodeo as I did at their age. It’s great to see the show still going strong after all these years.”
This year’s 152nd Ipswich Show will feature a wide range of attractions, including Exhibition Hall displays of local arts, crafts and produce, Animal Boulevard showcasing livestock and agricultural exhibits, and Side Show Alley packed with rides.
