I LOVE this time of year as the days get longer and sports finals are played out.
The junior rugby league season ended on Sunday with some entertaining footy. Springfield Panthers won the 13s, Norths won the 14s and West End finally won some silverware with a cracking game against the Bombers.
Well done to all players, coaches, officials and supporters on a great season.

Rugby League is also over for the all-conquering Ipswich High teams.
Shout out to their coaching staff who made six Bronco Cup Finals and won three of them. The coaching staff go above and beyond for their boys, shaping their footy paths and genuinely making better young men in the process. Well done.

Norths dominate hockey
The Ipswich Junior Hockey season is also over for another year with Norths winning three trophies and Easts winning one.
The hockey community is in mourning with the passing of life member and Queensland Hockey life member John Cushing last week.
John was a gentleman and a volunteer for most of his life and will be sadly missed.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and hockey community.

Heroes recognised
Our city is often in the news for wrong reasons.
Earlier this year an alleged drug influenced male was brandishing a knife at a woman outside Zaraffas and it was portrayed as a bad story.
The offender was not a local, in fact he was from another State. Fortunately, five locals jumped to the aid of the women putting their safety at risk until police arrived.
Hope, Alex, Eleanor, Stephen and Kelly were rewarded by QPS for their bravery at a ceremony last week.
Another couple of heroes awarded certificates were Lachlan, Dane, Alyssa and Troy who came to the aid of a lady being attacked in Springfield, causing the offender to flee.
It’s rewarding to see young people stepping up to help someone in trouble.
Well done to our local superheroes, showing not all super heroes wear capes.

Last hamburger
Dave and Norma opened Brassall Village Takeaway almost 30 years ago, and on Saturday, they flipped their final burger after selling their business.
Anyone who has lived in the area would have enjoyed their service and their smiles over the years.
