Whatever you feel about the Ipswich Australia Day awards, the one thing Ipswich City Council has got right is the employment of local Ipswich artists to create the trophies for the winners.

This was first introduced in the 2021 Australia Day Awards with ceramic artist Jane Du Rand creating beautiful trophies featuring Australian flora and fauna.

These awards were so well received and admired by the recipients that ICC has continued to reach out to local artists for the award trophies.

Last year internationally known woodworker Terry Martin made the trophies for the winners.

This year local indigenous artist Jennifer Kent was selected and she created six beautifully painted boomerangs.

“They were done in all different colours, with the idea of diverse people coming together to celebrate their many achievements,” Jennifer said.

I look forward to seeing which artist is selected for 2024 and what they create for the awards.

So far our artists have delivered some unique awards.
