FROM pregnancy and parenting to emotional well-being and cultural connection, Kambu Health is ensuring women across Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley have access to more than just medical care, providing a place where they can feel supported, empowered and connected.

Through a range of women-focused programs, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health organisation is helping women navigate life’s challenges while strengthening families and building lasting community connections.

At the heart of its approach is a commitment to holistic, culturally appropriate care that recognises the importance of physical health, emotional wellbeing and cultural identity.

Kambu Health’s dedicated women’s services include social and emotional wellbeing groups, a Women’s Group delivered through its Family Wellbeing Service in Laidley, midwifery care, and breast cancer screening and support.

For Kambu Health midwife Alison, who is also a mother and grandmother, the opportunity to support women through some of life’s most significant moments is what makes her work so rewarding.

“I love being a midwife because I am privileged to be part of one of the most important journeys a woman can take in life,” Alison said.

“Working at Kambu Health has been my happiest gig because I’ve met families and been able to work with them as their families grow.”

Alison said the transition into motherhood could be overwhelming, particularly for first-time parents, making access to trusted guidance and reassurance invaluable.

“We’re here to offer support with everything parents with newborn babies worry about.”

That philosophy is shared by Krystal, a proud Wiradjuri and Barkindji woman, mother of three, midwife and Child and Family Health Clinician.

“My passion comes from my own experience as a young mum,” Krystal said.

“I know what it feels like to not always have the information or support you need.”

Beyond its dedicated women’s programs, Kambu Health offers a broader network of services designed to strengthen families and community connections.
