FRESH from her success as winner of last year’s Flying Arts Queensland Regional Art Awards Youth Category,
Ipswich emerging artist Kathryn Neilsen is launching her first solo exhibition of 2026, Object: Landscape.
Working across photography and painted media, Neilsen’s practice explores nature, existence and the quiet poetry of the everyday.
With a particular fascination for trees and creating directly within natural environments, her work blurs the boundaries between artist, subject and setting.
A graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (2022), Neilsen’s career has gathered momentum in recent years. She was selected for the Emerging Artist Award group exhibition at the Judith Wright Centre in 2024 and undertook a three-week artist residency in Ipswich in 2025.
This year alone, she has three exhibitions scheduled across South East Queensland.
Her first for the year, Object: Landscape, is a solo exhibition presented at Banshees Bar and Artspace on Brisbane St, Ipswich. Opening on Sunday, February 15, the exhibition runs until March 21.
The body of work explores the idea of the “personal landscape”, asking how everyday objects might be reimagined and defined as landscapes in their own right.
Conceptual in nature yet grounded in material play, the exhibition features a collection of richly worked paintings alongside a selection of prints – described by the artist as “a whole lot of paint that’s been pushed around”.
Neilsen says she is thrilled to see the exhibition come together, marking an exciting start to a busy year ahead.
The exhibition opening on February 15 will run from 5-7pm, with light catering provided and the bar open throughout the evening.
Following Object: Landscape, Neilsen will present further exhibitions at the Ipswich Community Gallery in April and Land Street Gallery, Toowong, in August.
