OUR LEADERS: More than 25 captains (pictured with the mayor) from the high schools across Ipswich attended along with over
THE Ipswich Captain’s Conference was hosted at Bundamba State Secondary College recently presenting a wonderful learning opportunity for our potential leaders of the future.
College captains from all of Ipswich’s local high schools were given the opportunity to network and solve dynamic problems which their schools currently face.
The conference was centred around discussing ideas, experiences, and highlights which the captains of Ipswich have faced over the school year.
Given the floods and COVID lockdowns that have plagued Ipswich over the course of 2022, there were no shortage of challenges, but it was remarkable to hear what these young people had achieved despite them.
I had the pleasure of organising, opening, and hosting the conference as the Youth Member for Ipswich.
The mayor was the guest-speaker and after delivering her talk captains were encouraged to ask questions and proceeded to discuss the challenges facing youth people in our city.
Each captain presented a five minute speech on how their school’s student leadership team operates, their highlights, challenges, triumphs and learning experiences as captains in 2022. It was genuinely inspiring to hear how so many young people from different backgrounds were able to lead their communities in dynamic ways.
