MORE than 10,000 patients have passed through the emergency department at Mater Hospital Springfield in its first few months, as the new hospital responds to growing demand across one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.
The emergency department has been averaging about 130 presentations a day, while the hospital has also welcomed more than 300 babies since opening.
Mater’s Pregnancy Assessment Centre has recorded more than 1600 presentations, while almost 3000 procedures have been performed across the hospital.
The early figures provide a snapshot of demand for the expanded hospital services now available closer to home for families across Greater Springfield and the wider Ipswich region.
Mater Hospital Springfield General Manager Suzanne Hawksley said staff had quickly risen to the challenge.
“Our incredible team has hit the ground running since opening and I want to thank them for their dedication, skill and the compassionate care they are providing local families every day,” Ms Hawksley said.
“We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved in these first few months at Mater Hospital Springfield and look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality care for patients and families.”
The milestones come as the rapidly growing Springfield and Ipswich corridors continue to drive increased demand for hospital services.
