DANCER Mitch Wynter is living his best life, travelling the world and getting paid to do it.
All of this in his role as The Trickster, in Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza, the latest show being staged under the Big Top, Eagle Farm until October 4.
Ipswich families are expected to be among the first in line to see the latest offering from the world-
famous Cirque.
For Wynter, 27, the role is a dream come true and something he has imagined playing since he first watched a video of Kooza at age 15.
“I remember watching Kooza and being drawn to The Trickster. There is something about the energy, the movement and the way he connects the whole show. I never imagined I would be the person bringing him to life.”
“Being him – The Trickster – is a full circle moment. And playing The Trickster to a home audience brings it all home.
My whole family will be in the audience,” he said.
Wynter said finishing school at age 15 to become a full-time dancer was a “big thing” for him and his family.
“My parents saw my passion and what it meant to me. They couldn’t be prouder seeing me in this role. I am an only child, so that makes this extra-special,” he said.
Wynter said he believed he started his dance career at a pinnacle on attaining this particular role.
“The Trickster is a dancer, an acrobat, an actor. Basically he’s the master of ceremonies, the ring leader,” he said.
“He’s multi-talented, but most of all he’s mischievous, bubbly and charismatic. I put a lot into the role. I give it everything I have.
“It’s like Mitch is the Trickster and the Trickster is Mitch.”
Wynter said the audience could find the character intimidating at first, but as the show went along, he was liked more and more.
“I hope by the end, The Trickster and the storyline has touched everyone,” he said.
Mr Wynter said the movement characteristics required elegance and precision, qualities which he worked on during his five-week training period on joining Cirque in 2021.
