Motorway fix is still months away
SLOW PROGRESS: Looking northbound, the new road lane is being built offline next to the existing traffic lane that remains in use

FOR the past five year’s motorists driving off to work using the Centenary Highway Motorway have battled a gridlock at the intersection of the Logan Motorway.

While building was booming ahead in the Springfield, Ripley and Deebing Heights catchment areas the Department of Transport and Main Roads did nothing and simply ignored the worsening problem.

In seeking election to the new State seat of Jordan, Charis Mullen, vowed to get it fixed.

She was good to her word, but it wasn’t until July this year that the TMR finally started work on the bottleneck. That was the good news, the bad was that the roadwork worsened the problem for drivers and it won’t get any better until at least another six months.

TMR has at least confirmed the interchange upgrade is on schedule and completion is expected by mid next year, weather and conditions permitting.

“A more specific completion date cannot be provided at this time,” a TMR spokesperson said.

“There has been no issues affecting progress and we are working to manage safety, traffic flow, and congestion for all road users.”

The $15m project includes duplicating the northbound carriageway from one to two lanes to help manage congestion, particularly during morning peak periods.
