A kaleidoscope of colour and music will burst onto the Gatton stage when Lockyer Regional Performing Arts presents its next show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

After 16 weeks of rehearsals, the community theatre group is ready to take the Gatton Shire Hall stage for four performances from May 14-16.

This Andrew Lloyd Webber favourite retells the well- known Bible story of Joseph, a boy blessed with prophetic dreams.

Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country western and calypso to bubble gum pop and rock ’n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

It is the fourth show Tammy Sarah Linde and Luke O’Hagan have directed for Lockyer Regional Performing Arts (LRPA) and, unlike previous productions, it is a completely sung-through musical.

“This really raises the bar,” Tammy said.

“The entire cast is giving it so much energy and passion and it’s beautiful to see them rise to the occasion.”

Audiences can expect a fun-filled and exciting show from an enthusiastic cast of local performers.

“What makes this show special is what makes LRPA special: it’s a proper community musical,” Luke said.

“We have more than 50 local performers who are on stage almost the entire time.

“Coming to a show like this is about supporting your local artists and, in the Lockyer Valley, there are so many fantastic artists.”

The Narrator – one of the biggest roles in musical theatre – is played with proficiency and heart by experienced performers Molly Parker and Gabriella Ambrey.

“We split it between two people because they were honestly so good, we couldn’t split them,” Tammy said.

“We’ve got double the talent.”

From Joseph and his brothers, to the show-stealing Pharaoh and the delightful children’s chorus, there’s no shortage of talent among this diverse cast.

“If you came along to ‘honk’ you’re going to see some familiar faces,” Tammy said. “They’ve grown and improved even more from the last time we were here.

“We’ve also had new people from the community join the group and wow us with the amount of talent they have.”

Opening night is Thursday, May 14, followed by shows on Friday night, a Saturday matinee, and Saturday evening.

The popular Gala Lunch is on Saturday, May 16, catered by Lockyer District High School hospitality students.

Patrons can enjoy beverages and snacks at all shows, thanks to Withcott Helidon Lions Club, who are running the canteen.
