MAJOR Federal Government funding for vital upgrades to Willowbank Raceway will see the track shutdown from August 14 through to the end of October.

The funding will go towards a number of projects including track and drainage upgrades, track improvements, venue lighting improvements and new toilet facilities.

Willowbank recently received its second funds drawdown which has enabled project managers to set a deadline for work to begin and to firstly fix the drainage issue which has been a bugbear to racing at the centre for years.

Getting water off the racing surface and braking area particularly after a typical Queensland storm or from an extended rain event has hampered competition and at times caused cancellations.

A full review by hydrologists and drainage specialists have been carried out to establish the scope of the work required.

The shutdown of the track has forced a scramble for slots for a number of organisers and over the remainder of July it will be wall to wall racing.

In all eight events are scheduled with the leading event the 2023 Queensland Drag Racing Championships on Saturday, July 22.

Racing this weekend will be on Friday night for the Test and Tune entrants and on Saturday for the Archers Smash Repairs Street Series.
