GET ready for a big Saturday of events here in Ipswich.
What a day it will be with so much happening in the arts and culture.
There is an opening at Ipswich Art Gallery where Kate Douglas, an Ipswich-based visual artist, will be showcasing her latest artworks in an exhibition titled ‘Remnants Of The Past’.
Kate’s paintings depict the local built and natural environments, blending visual and symbolic elements in compelling compositions.
Her artworks transport us to another time, capturing the emotions and stories embedded in historical relics, connecting us to the past.
Each artwork tells an imaginary slice of life, offering a visual tale without words. Kate’s previous exhibition, “Entanglement,” showcasing the Bremer River, received rave reviews, with many artworks finding new homes.
Everyone is invited to attend the opening on July 15 at 3pm. Numbers are limited so you must RSVP via the Ipswich Art Gallery website.
One Act Plays
A birthday celebration is being held on the Saturday with the Ipswich Little Theatre’s 50 years of Young Theatricals.
To celebrate this event ILT will be commencing their Young Theatricals one-act play season.
The first play will be “We’re All Mad Here” where three people accept an invitation to take part in an experiment.
As it progresses, we see the drive that makes each human want to possess more than his neighbours – a drive that causes hatred and starts wars.
The second play will be ‘Mmmbeth’ by Allison Williams.
A hilarious gender-bending take on the Scottish play.
Tickets are on sale now for this thought provoking and hilarious one act plays by these talented young thespians.
The production will be held at the historic Walter Burley Griffin Incinerator Theatre which is located at 15 Burley Griffin Drive, Ipswich.
Come along and support the next generation of actors.
The season runs from July 14-23.
45 Years of Yarnin
A birthday celebration is also being held by the Spinners, Weavers, Fibre Artisans of Ipswich at Cooneana Heritage Centre, 1041 Redbank Plains Road, New Chum on Saturday.
With free entry to the event, the first 100 adults through the gate will receive a handcrafted gift created by group members.
It will run from 10am-2pm and will feature hands on activities for adults and children including mosaic work and weaving.
Brighton House will feature an exhibition of textiles created by each of the members of the club.
Entertainment will be provided by the Miner Chords, The Koala Protection society alongside those Naughty Little Kids.
Guests are welcome to visit the Cooneana Heritage site and enjoy the displays created by the Ipswich Historical Society, the Genealogical Society and The Historical Motorcycle club of Qld, Ipswich branch.
The Spinners, Weavers, Fibre Artisans are seeking to invite any former members of the club to a special
High Tea to be held at the same venue on Sunday, July 16 at 11am.

SPARK Festival
After a night and day of theatre, openings and art its back to d’Arcy Doyle Place where it will be transformed into a visual spectacle that profiles local artists, architecture and the nooks and crannies of this iconic Ipswich meeting place.
On July 15 we will see Ipswich based artists Leanne Vincent and Jacob Sarra’s artworks projected onto the walls of the old Commonwealth Bank building and St Pauls Church.
Flash Tattoo Day
Finally, it’s Compass Tattoos 7th Birthday and they are going to have a party.
On Saturday they will be holding a flash day. Compass tattoos have invited Tattoo Artists from all over Brisbane to help them throw down a record number of tattoos on this day.
