SISTERS Alicia Coop and Narelle Thorburn left a little of their heart behind when they moved their Ember’s and Twine Gift shop out of the Old Flour Mill Building and down to Brisbane Street.

“This is such a unique building that we just had to come back with our idea for a cafe,” Alicia said.

It took two years for them to do it, but now the Mill Coffee Shop is up and running and proving a hit with a growing regular clientele.

The new customers have also discovered the hidden charms of the building which is one of the heritage classics of the Ipswich City Heart.

Alicia and Narelle held off opening their new cafe until a lift was put in place to help make it disability friendly.

“I spoke to a woman one day who had a son in a high custom wheelchair and she told me about access and table height issues at other outlets, so I wanted to make sure we catered correctly for everyone,” Alicia said.

“Our tables can now be quickly adjusted to different heights and we have a bottom floor lift so the stairs are never a problem for anyone.

“We didn’t want to exclude people from coming here and enjoying a coffee and a freshly cooked pastry just because they were confined to a wheelchair.”

The Mill sources their coffee from exclusive roasters Besito Coffee who only roast in small batches to ensure consistent high quality.
