THE Ipswich region has consistently performed well in the Football Queensland Premier Leagues, and the 2025 season is set to be particularly exciting with FQPL 4 featuring numerous local derbies.
The top-ranked clubs in the area, Ipswich FC in FQPL 1 and Ipswich Knights FC in FQPL 3, will face off against teams from the south-east of the state. However, the most anticipated competition is FQPL 4, which will showcase local Ipswich clubs competing in eagerly awaited derbies.
The competition kicks off with Ripley Valley playing Acacia Ridge at Ironbark Park on Friday, February 28 at 8.30pm, while Western Spirit faces Moggill FC at Kippen Park simultaneously.
On Saturday, March 1, Ipswich City Bulls (now the second team of Ipswich FC) will play The Gap at Sutton Park at 5pm.
Fans can look forward to intense local rivalries as Ripley Valley, Ipswich FC, Western Spirit, and Moggill FC clash throughout the season.
In the challenging FQPL 1, Ipswich FC will host Logan Lightning at Briggs Road on February 22. The race for promotion to the National Premier League (NPL) is fierce, with teams like The Strikers, Rochedale Rovers, Broadbeach, Redlands, Holland Park Hawks, and Logan vying for two promotion spots. A win in their opening match against Logan could position Ipswich FC as serious contenders.
While Ipswich lacks representation in FQPL 2, the Knights and Springfield United carry the flag in FQPL 3. Nearby Centenary Stormers, located just off the Ipswich highway in Darra, add a derby feel to the division. The presence of 13 teams, resulting in a weekly bye, is a notable aspect of this division.
With a touch of bias, I hope to see Ipswich FC secure promotion to the NPL, alongside strong performances from Ipswich Knights and Springfield United.
