South East Queensland community theatre is celebrating a major achievement, with Swich Up Productions’ Jekyll & Hyde The Musical receiving an impressive 15 nominations at this year’s Gold Palm Awards.

The gothic musical, which wowed audiences with its ambitious staging and powerful performances, has been recognised across a wide range of categories, from acting and directing to design and choreography.

Highlights include nominations for Best Director Timothy Wynn, Best Musical Director Julie Whiting, and Best Choreographer Jennifer B. Ashley.

Leading performers Matt Leigh and Nykita O’Keeffe were nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role, while Cameron Rollo earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor.

The production’s ensemble, The Red Rat Girls, also received a nomination, as did the show’s spectacular fight scenes and confrontations, recognised in the Best Magic Moment of Theatre category.

Behind the scenes, Adrian Carr’s set design and program, Jason Bovaird’s lighting, Daniel Monteith’s sound, and Glenn Baylis’ costume work all received nominations, highlighting the production’s technical excellence.

Emerging talent Jesse Frommelt has been acknowledged with The Jock and Beverly McIlwain Special Encouragement Award & Bursary.

Swich Up Productions expressed pride in the entire cast, crew, and creative team for bringing this ambitious production to life, and thanked the Gold Palm Awards for their continued support of community theatre in the region.

The Gold Palm Awards celebrate the best in South East Queensland’s vibrant theatre community, and the nominations for Jekyll & Hyde underscore the production’s impact and the company’s commitment to excellence on stage.
