Award-Winning Ipswich Artist Jill Hunter Showcases Nature
SHARE

A Brisbane/Ipswich- based artist, Jill Hunter’s artistic interest started during her high school days.

Many years later, turning 50 and still consumed by her love of drawing and painting, Jill thought … why not continue this passion and see where it goes.

Taking watercolour and acrylic classes, and now into retirement, this has allowed Jill to build her confidence, skill and ability to produce stunning artworks.

With an early interest in flowers, Jill completed a fresh flower course, which while living at Boyne Island, brought a natural transition to creating stunning dried flower arrangements which adorned many a family and friend’s tables, some still surviving today.

With varied subject matter including birds, still life, and natural surroundings, Jill’s dynamic use of colour captures the essence of nature’s vibrant hues, revealing a profound connection to the world around us.

Seeking to evoke thought-provoking responses through her works, which are primarily in acrylic and watercolour, and with a keen eye for detail, Jill’s pieces often feature delicate depictions of birds, rendering them an abstract touch to create a sense of belonging.

With Jill’s still life, her compositions also explore the beauty of everyday household items with a delicate balance of brush strokes that reflect a deep appreciation for the complexities and wonders of nature, that invites the viewer to contemplate their own relationship with the natural world.

Participating in many exhibitions throughout Brisbane and Ipswich, alongside her artist husband Michael Hunter, Jill has won many awards.

The most recent being Special Award at this year’s Brookfield Show for a painting that featured one of her favourite subjects, birds, with the subject being the resident Curlew family that reside in her neighbourhood.

With an art studio reminiscent of Margaret Olley, and after seeing the movie The Christophers Jill agrees that a bit of untidiness is a requirement.

Jill displays and sells her works through the Arts Connect Booval Shopping Fair Community Art Gallery which is open 6 days per week 10 am to 2pm
