A colourful new public art project has officially transformed the walls of the Booval Fair undercover car park, with six large-scale murals now complete and receiving an overwhelmingly positive response.
Marketing Manager Rachel Vickery said seeing the artworks for the first time was an emotional moment.
“Seeing them all complete when I arrived to work on Monday morning was amazing” she said. “The reaction from the community has been amazing.”
The brainchild of Centre Manager Karissa Pagham and Ms Vickery, with support from Ipswich City Council Discretionary Fund, the call-out was made for artists to submit works celebrating the people, stories, and spirit that made Ipswich feel like home.
Among the completed works are Glen Smith’s Native Wildflowers, representing resilience and diversity, Grant Quinn’s The Hen House, Kirsty O’Brien’s vibrant interpretation of Booval, Tarquin Moon’s We All Come From One Flock, Alex Jones’ community-inspired Cameron Park, and the Ipswich Climate Action Group’s collaborative mural highlighting the environmental impact and importance of bees Without Bee’s there is No Us.
