FANS of synths, quirky costumes and one of the most influential bands of the New Wave era are in for a night of nostalgia when Crack That Whip – The DEVO Tribute Show rolls into Ipswich.
The tribute act will take over Studio 188 on Friday, August 14, delivering a high-energy celebration of the pioneering American band behind hits including Whip It, Girl U Want and Beautiful World.
Complete with DEVO’s unmistakable red energy domes and signature costumes, Crack That Whip recreates the look, sound and eccentric stage presence that made the Akron, Ohio outfit one of the most distinctive bands of the late 1970s and 1980s.
The performance promises an authentic trip back to the era of alternative New Wave music, combining faithful renditions of DEVO’s biggest songs with the theatrical flair that defined the band’s live performances.
Adding to the retro atmosphere, the night will also feature alternative 80s DJ sets from Kristin Black of Heyday 4222 and Madame Æ.
Band representative Cameron Ball said: “Performing with boundless energy and flair, we replicate the DEVO style to an uncanny degree, leaving punters with a smile on their face and thoroughly entertained.”
