VISITOR arrivals to RAAF Amberley will be capped at 20,000 a day for the Ipswich Air Tattoo later this year.

Tickets for the October 29-30 event will go on sale from 9am on July 20, the RAAF also announced.

Air Commodore Micka Gray, the RAAF’s Head of Air Shows, said they expect the tickets to sell out before the event.

“There will be no tickets sold on the days,” he said at a press conference on the base tarmac

“There will be about 20 aircraft types on the ground and flying, ranging from Spitfire and Mustang to the frontline F-35 Lightning II,” Air Commodore Gray said.

He also confirmed that Ipswich City Council will be proving free viewing platforms at Ipswich, Springfield and Rosewood for additional fly-pasts by most aircraft types with food vans.

“At Amberley, there will be a great range of aircraft and ground displays,” he said.

The operational aircraft types will include the EA-18G Growler and F-18 Hornet, F-35 Lightning II, C-130 (Hercules) and C-27 (Spartan) airlifters, Airbus KC-30A (mid-air refueller), E-7 Wedgetail (surveillance) and the C-17 airlifter.

The air tattoo will include an air show and feature WWII-era aircraft from 100 Squadron from Temora, NSW, and from Point Cook, Victoria.

“We will also have an impressive range of heritage aircraft here at Amberley,” Air Commodore Gray said.

They will also have the Spitfire, Mustang, Boomerang (all WWII fighters), Hudson (WWII bomber), Canberra (jet bomber), Cessna Dragonfly (Vietnam-era ground attack aircraft), Wirraway and AT-6 Harvard (both WWII-era trainers).

“We will also have a great range of specialist military equipment and vehicles, and other displays.”

The flying displays at Amberley will be conducted twice each day: possibly 10am-12noon and repeated at 1pm-3pm. The flying program will be the same on Saturday and Sunday.”
