TUNING UP: The Ipswich Youth String Ensemble in rehearsal for their performance at the Ipswich Masonic Hall in Roderick Street.

IT is great to hear that Ipswich now has a youth string ensemble.

Local identity Brenna Gilfedder-Cooney, created the group when she saw a need in Ipswich.

Brenna said Ipswich was the only town in Australia of its size that did not have an ongoing weekly youth orchestra.

Brenna has also realised that costs and time spent traveling to Brisbane had been a concern for parents and as a result some students missed out on performance opportunities.

Brenna started this group and is only charging the students $2 per family which is just to cover the cost of hall hire.

She wants every child to be able to be part of this ensemble and hopes that it will grow in success.

Ipswich Junior String Ensemble is open to string players aged under 18 and live in the Ipswich and surrounding districts.

To highlight and present this group to Ipswich, Brenna will be conducting the first presentation of the efforts of the group on Sunday the September 11, 7pm at the Ipswich Masonic Hall in Roderick Street.

Entry is only a gold coin donation, and everyone is welcome.

No bookings essential, just turn up and enjoy this amazing talented youth ensemble.

Brenna has chosen an ambitious program and says that the students are enjoying the challenge.

The program is Baroque to early Classical. Biber to Mozart, including Vivaldi, Bach, Telemann, and Handel.

At present there are 21 students involved, but she is hoping to get more violinists and violists involved to balance out the strong cello section.
