EVERY year in September, Boonah holds a major Arts Festival over eight days.
The festival is presented by the Boonah and District Cultural Foundation and sponsored by Ritchies Supa IGA and supported by the Scenic Rim Regional Council.
It gives everyone an opportunity to display their talent in the fields of art, writing, fashion, theatre, debating and craft.
The festival includes a vibrant and inclusive program of community events designed to inspire and highlight the local talent in performing and visual arts.
This year the festival included events such as the Great Comedy Debate, Sip and Paint, Bling That Thing, a mix media Workshop, the Youth Showcase and to end the program the Awards and Fashion Night.
The Awards night saw an event full of dazzling outfits, shimmering gowns and wearable creations during the night of fashion and wearable art.
It included entertainment by the Boonah State School Rock Band, students of Eastman Academy of Music with a special mention of Oliver Prickett performing a Victor Borge tribute and of course the comedic talents of Tony Barnes.
However, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the winners of the Fashion, Art and Writing Awards.
The awards were presented by the Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen and this year several Ipswich artists shone at the event.
Artists Ann Window taking out First in Works on Paper plus a highly commended in Works on Paper and Mix Media, Pricilla Lawrence received a Highly Commended in 3D works, Toni McIssac won second in 3D sculpture, Grant Quinn won People’s Choice and I can’t help but feel a little proud to say that I won Mix Media and Wearable Art.
Each year the festival brings the community together and this year was no exception with the Boonah Cultural Foundation and artists already planning for 2023.
