I am writing to express my sincere gratitude, both personally and on behalf of the Ipswich West State School community, to Councillor Andrew Antoniolli and the Ipswich City Council team for their recent decision to allow verge parking on the grassed road reserve opposite the school.
For many years, this area has been used informally by parents during school pick-up and drop-off times. It is a grassed road reserve with no footpaths, landscaping or regular maintenance.
Despite its long-standing use, the presence of two No Standing signs created confusion and led to enforcement that did not reflect the way the community had safely relied on this space.
Council’s willingness to review the situation, listen to local concerns and ultimately support verge parking has made a meaningful difference.
The decision will help ease congestion, improve traffic flow and provide a safer environment for students and families. It also acknowledges the practical realities faced by parents who need accessible and safe parking during peak times, school events and activities.
Councillor Antoniolli’s advocacy and genuine engagement with the issue have been invaluable. His support, along with the efforts of those involved at Council, demonstrates the value of listening to residents and finding practical, common-sense solutions.
Ipswich West State School families are deeply appreciative of the outcome. It is encouraging to see local representatives working collaboratively with residents to create safer and more supportive spaces for our children.
