ALMOST four years ago QR advised Sadliers Crossing residents that the Herbert Street Bridge that had been in operation for more than 120 years would be closed to traffic as it was a timber structure, and deemed unsafe, so would just be used for pedestrians.
Our city’s population has grown to 250 000, and sadly infrastructure has not kept up with our growth.
Our city needs more bridges, and this one needs to be replaced.
It was demolished on the weekend, and QR have yet to commit if they will open a bridge to vehicles or just pedestrians.
Our city deserves better than waiting years with no bridge.
It is not good enough, and when you consider the hundreds of millions being spent on a new cross river rail, surely QR could find the funds to replace a bridge as a matter of urgency after destroying it.

Lisa’s Lunches
I love how our community rallies to support a good cause.
CSI hosted an afternoon party for Lisa’s Lunches on Sunday afternoon and raised nearly $10,000 to support families on the cancer journey.
The money will go to buy books and stationary for families with children at school.
Natalia, Kerryn, Janette and their team organised a great afternoon for the 120 people that attended.
Due to the success of the afternoon, it’s hoped to be an annual event.
Trish is a legend
Trish Kinnane is an athletics legend and she has now been recognised with life membership at Ipswich District, Queensland and National level for her work in sports administration.
Last week she was awarded the rare honour of Life Governor at Athletics Australia for many years of service.

Lomy’s NRL contract
Shalom Sauaso is the latest rugby league player to gain an NRL contract from Ipswich High.
The humble 16-year-old already has an impressive resume having represented Qld in rugby league and rugby Union.
Lomy has a big future ahead of her and it will be great to follow her sporting journey.

Dakota flies high
Another local kicking goals in her career is Dakota Davidson who is living her dream playing for the Brisbane Lions.
It was good to watch her in action at Springfield when her team won a thriller against Adelaide.
Dakota opened the scoring for the home team in the first few minutes and played a big part in the home side’s victory.
The next Springfield game is on the first weekend of November against Melbourne who are leading the comp.
Vale Bill Hayden
I was saddened to learn that Bill Hayden passed away last week aged 90.
Bill lived most of his life in our city, after he was transferred to Redbank as a police officer.
He made his name as a politician and was our local federal MP for many years.
He rose up through the ranks to be the ALP leader and was ousted by Bob Hawke just before the 1983 election.
Its been said he was the greatest politician to never be Prime Minister.
I’ve often wondered what could’ve happened in our city if he was the PM, we will never know. He finished his public office as Governor General where he served with dignity for seven years.
