Helen’s Haven has officially opened at its new location in Goodna, with plans to expand its services to better support the community.
Co-founder Helen Youngberry said the team was working hard to enhance their facilities.
“This week, we are getting the kitchen done,” she said.
“We are also setting up laundry and bathroom facilities for our clients.”
Located at 9 Layard St, Goodna, the new Foodbank and Community Service Hub aims to distribute up to 210 tonnes of food annually to those in need.
Ms Youngberry and co-founder Stephen Purcell were overwhelmed by the warm reception from the community during their opening weekend.
The launch comes at a critical time, as new research highlights the worsening housing crisis.
The latest Productivity Commission’s Report on Government Services revealed that nearly 42 per cent of low-income households receiving Commonwealth Rent Assistance were still in rental stress.
The report also revealed a 25 per cent increase in persistent homelessness over the past five years, underscoring the need for greater investment in long-term housing and support services.
With its expanded facilities, Helen’s Haven is stepping up to meet these growing challenges, offering essential services to those struggling in the community.
