THE boots might be a little harder to pull on and the recovery might take a little longer, but a group of Ipswich Eagles is proving the love of footy doesn’t disappear with age.
The Ipswich Eagles are hoping to field a Masters team in 2027, with a series of friendly matches giving former players and those simply wanting another crack at the game the chance to step back onto that field.
And if Saturday afternoon’s clash at Limestone Park was anything to go by, there is still plenty of football left in the old legs, with the Masters side taking the 72-29 victory against the Eagles.
For Masters co-captain Craig “Frowy” Frohmuller, however, the result was secondary to what the afternoon represented.
“It gives us older blokes, and ladies, the chance to cross that sideline back onto the field without having to be in top physical,” he said.
The Eagles hope a Masters side can provide a welcoming environment not only for former footballers, but also newcomers.
