IPSWICH FC has returned from the Gold Coast empty-handed after falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Broadbeach United in their FQPL 1 Men clash on Saturday afternoon.
In a tightly contested encounter at Nikiforides Family Park, there was little separating the two sides before Broadbeach finally found the breakthrough just before the hour mark.
After a scoreless opening half, Broadbeach defender Ethan Mitchell broke the deadlock in the 59th minute to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.
Ipswich looked for a response as the match entered its final half-hour, turning to the bench in an effort to find an equaliser.
Daniel Fogarty and Kyle Borg were introduced in the 61st minute, replacing Samuel Garcia Martin and Brandon Le May, before further changes followed as Ipswich pushed for a way back into the contest.
Michael Moore and Conor Smith entered the action in the 71st minute, while Matthew Haspels, Lachlan Buckman and Nikolas Veal were brought on three minutes later as Ipswich continued to search for the goal that would salvage a point.
Despite Ipswich’s efforts, Mitchell’s second-half strike proved the difference, with Broadbeach holding firm through the closing stages to secure all three points.
The 1-0 result was a frustrating one for Ipswich, with a single moment ultimately deciding an otherwise closely fought FQPL 1 Men contest.
