Six members of Renegade Bowmen have flown the Australian flag with distinction at the World Field Archery Championships in Yankton, South Dakota, returning home with world titles and podium finishes.
Of the 15 Australians who competed at the championships, an impressive six came from Renegade Bowmen.
Leading the charge was Jeanette Dowd, who was crowned World Champion after taking first place in the Veteran Women’s Bowhunter Unlimited division.
Fellow Renegade Bowmen member Jen Kennedy made it a one-two result for the club in the division, claiming second place.
Marissa Doncaster also secured a silver medal, finishing second in the Adult Female Bowhunters Compound division, while Sam Ford claimed first place in the Adult Female Bowhunters Unlimited B Grade.
Kev Dowd added another international honour, representing Australia as part of the Champion of Nations team that finished third.
The results were particularly impressive given it was the first World Field Archery Championships for Kennedy, Russell, Doncaster and Ford.
Jeanette and Kev Dowd brought considerably more international experience to the Australian contingent, having competed at several world championships over the years.
The Renegade Bowmen representatives will now turn their attention towards another major international event much closer to home.
The club will host the Pacific Regional Field Archery Championships in July 2027, giving its members the opportunity to compete against leading archers from across the region on their home range.
There is also another World Field Archery Championships on the horizon for Australian competitors, with the 2028 championships set to be staged in Australia at Wide Bay Field Archers in Hervey Bay.
After making up six of Australia’s 15 competitors in South Dakota – and returning with a collection of outstanding results – Renegade Bowmen have certainly shown they can hit the mark on the world stage.
