IPSWICH based ceramic artist Jane Du Rand has created the most incredible jaw dropping ceramic installation that captures the artist’s interpretation of the ever evolving Australian natural landscape.
Jane’s installation, titled ‘Green, Red and Black’ is made up of hundreds of glazed tiles using the colour shades green, red and black to represent the artists experience of the Australian bush, rainforests, red desert plains and even the bushfire stricken ash.
For Jane bushwalking has played an essential role in creating a connection to the Australian landscape.
Since immigrating to Australia from South Africa in 2014, Jane has observed Australian flora, fauna and experiences that have delighted, excited and instilled her with a sense of awe.
Jane has used her experiences to create this visually impressive installation made up of hundreds of handmade tiles.
She said some tiles are simply an impression of textures or patterns I have witnessed through my immersion in the natural landscape, while others are detailed studies of birds and other creatures I have seen.
Jane first came to my attention when she won ‘Best in Show’ at the 2017 Ipswich Art Awards.
She has since been a finalist in the 2020 Queensland Regional Art Awards and held a solo exhibition ‘Living in Ipswich ’at the Ipswich Art Gallery.
