FROM bargain lunch specials to rich curries and a slow-cooked Massaman that demands attention, Little Bangkok Bistro proves some of Ipswich’s best Thai food can be found tucked away in Redbank Plains.

The search for Ipswich’s best Thai took Roamin’ Rowan to a modest little restaurant is serving up some seriously big Bangkok flavours.

Little Bangkok Bistro sits at 2/163 Alawoona St and, judging by its menu, there is no shortage of reasons locals keep heading back.

This is Thai comfort food territory, from fragrant curries, sizzling stir-fries, noodles, crispy starters and plenty of coconut milk, chilli, lemongrass and basil doing the heavy lifting.

The entrée menu gets things moving with standards including pork and vegetable spring rolls, curry puffs and crispy tofu, but the coconut prawns immediately jump off the page with whole king prawns coated in coconut crumbs, deep-fried and served with plum sauce.

But Little Bangkok really starts flexing its muscles when the curries arrive.

Red, green, yellow and Panang are all represented, while the traditional must- order Massaman combines coconut milk, potatoes and carrots with the warming spices of Massaman curry paste.

For those who prefer the wok, there is an enormous choice of stir-fries, including sweet basil, ginger, satay, oyster sauce, cashew nuts, sweet and sour, chilli basil, garlic and pepper and curry powder.

And, of course, you cannot go hunting for Ipswich’s best Thai without putting the classics through their paces.

Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and fried rice all feature, and they appear to be among the restaurant’s crowd favourites online.

Little Bangkok does not need bells and whistles.

Its appeal is straightforward: a huge menu, generous Thai favourites, plenty of spice and some very tempting prices.
