THE Walloon Hotel recently hosted Snips and Sips, a community-driven event offering free haircuts to those in need.
Spearheaded by hotel owner Stewart Gibson, the initiative aimed to provide relief to locals facing financial hardship.
Stewart’s wife and co-owner, Katie Gibson, expressed pride in the event’s success.
“Stewart is witnessing firsthand the fallout from the rising cost of living,” Ms Gibson said.
“Many people in our community are struggling, and even basic necessities like haircuts are becoming a luxury that gets put last.”
Held at the popular country pub, the event came at a crucial time of year when families are financially stretched after Christmas and back-to-school expenses.
The Gibsons saw an opportunity to give back, particularly to men who may not prioritise self-care during tough times.
The community response was overwhelmingly positive, with about 20 men taking advantage of the free haircuts.
“We definitely plan to hold more events like this,” Ms Gibson said, potentially every eight weeks.
