OUR city boasts some magnificent houses with historical significance from as early as the 1850s.
In 2013 ‘Great Houses of Ipswich’ was established to showcase homes to the public, which many would never get the chance to see.
On Saturday, three homes were on display, Claremont, Karragaroo and Ballachulish.
Congratulations to organisers, volunteers, and the owners of these amazing houses that allowed people to inspect their residences.
A great day was had by all, and I’m looking forward to the next event and I encourage you to come along to get a unique insight into our heritage.
Marburg Show fun
Also on Saturday was the Marburg Show which was enjoyed by a healthy crowd with visitors coming from as far away as Esk, Toowoomba and Boonah.
Some amazing animals and produce were on display and I enjoyed the Marburg State School famous “Marburger”.
This was a good taster for the Ipswich Show coming this weekend.
This year celebrates 150 years and promises to be the biggest show ever.
It’s always exciting seeing sideshow alley filling and seeing the showgrounds covered with coloured lights.
The new roller coaster is sure to be a hit, and brings back memories of the Chipmunk when I was in my teens.
Congratulations to Darren Zanow and his team on what is set to be a great event, I’m looking forward to enjoying the stalls, displays, demolition derby and the fireworks.
Touch footy star
Congratulations to Jacko Walker who played for the U20 Australian Mixed Touch team in the Pacific Cup on the weekend.
Jacko plays in the ipswich mixed competition on Tuesday nights, and it’s good to see a local attaining the highest representative honour.
Still on sporting champs and local legend John Brown celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday.
John is in rare company of elite sportspeople having represented Queensland at open level in rugby league and cricket. The humble West End junior was also selected for two tests in the 1970 Rugby League World Cup. Our city has produced many state and national champions, yet we lack facilities and venues to support our athletes and sporting clubs.
It’s exciting to learn that University of Southern Queensland are talking about potentially installing a tartan track.
