AFTER weeks spent tracking down flaky pastries, towering burgers and woodfired pizzas, Roamin Rowan has turned his attention to the sweetest challenge yet – finding Ipswich’s ultimate dessert.
And Ipswich locals have certainly delivered a sugar rush of recommendations.
Week 10 of Ipswich’s favourite local food hunt saw residents passionately nominate the venues they believe serve the region’s best desserts, with suggestions pouring in from every corner of the city.
From towering cakes and rich cheesecakes to handcrafted gelato, gourmet donuts, loaded waffles and irresistible brownies, the competition proved Ipswich is home to no shortage of sweet treats.
As nominations rolled in, locals fiercely defended their favourite dessert destinations, sharing stories of indulgent family outings, secret menu favourites and desserts worth driving across town for.
Whether you’re a chocoholic chasing the ultimate brownie, a lover of creamy gelato, a cheesecake connoisseur or someone who simply can’t resist a fresh donut straight from the cabinet, Ipswich’s dessert scene has something guaranteed to satisfy every sweet tooth.
VOTING AVALANCHE
Thousands of our readers weighed in on this week’s search for Ipswich’s best dessert, with the post attracting an impressive 20,152 views and plenty of passionate debate from local sweet tooths.
There were plenty of worthy contenders, with honourable mentions going to Yo Goat Frozen Yoghurt, The Churro Bar and Blitz’d Acai & Sweets, all of which received strong support from dessert lovers across the region.
When the votes were counted, it was impossible to separate the top three, with Baked, Kreative Designs and Walkers Donuts finishing in a three-way tie for first place.
Having previously crowned Baked the winner of Best Sweet Treat thanks to its famous chocolate brownie, Roamin Rowan decided it was time to revisit Walkers Donuts for what feels like the umpteenth time.
The donuts are fresh, fun and undeniably delicious, making the original Melbourne institution Walkers a must-visit destination whenever a sugar craving strikes.
My favourites are the Banoffee, Lamington or Vovo Noonie.
Roamin Rowan Rating: 7/10
A fantastic local treat and always worth the stop, but for sheer dessert brilliance, Baked remains the benchmark.
