THE long-awaited $40 million transformation of North Ipswich Reserve has taken another major step forward, with community consultation complete and final design work now underway ahead of construction beginning later this year.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the project was progressing strongly, with only a handful of steps remaining before works start on the new Western Grandstand.
Jointly funded by the Australian Government ($20 million), Queensland Government ($10 million) and Ipswich City Council ($10 million), the redevelopment is expected to begin construction in September and be completed in late 2027 ahead of the 2028 sporting season.
Mayor Harding said recent community engagement focused on a proposed planning amendment to upgrade the site’s designation from a park to a major sport, recreation and facility precinct under the Ipswich City Plan 2025.
“This was an important step which allowed us to further identify and understand key issues, risks and opportunities, as well as deepen our understanding of what matters most to the community with this project,” she said.
The new grandstand will feature 2000 seats, modern dressing rooms with showers and amenities, upgraded public facilities, media and coaches’ boxes, and function spaces capable of hosting up to 250 guests.
