IN the rolling green heart of the Scenic Rim, where agriculture and tradition run deep, a thunder of hooves will once again echo across the showgrounds this June.

The Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular 2026 returns to Beaudesert from June 11-14, transforming the region into a vibrant celebration of horsepower, heritage and Highland pride.

Now expanded into a four-day program, the event continues to grow in stature, and spirit, cementing its reputation as the richest Clydesdale show in the Southern Hemisphere.

There’s something unmistakably powerful about a Clydesdale.

Towering yet gentle, these iconic draught horses, often called the “gentle giants”, once formed the backbone of rural Australia, clearing land, ploughing paddocks and hauling harvests.

Today, their role may have changed, but their legacy remains firmly harnessed to communities like Beaudesert.
For one weekend each year, that legacy comes alive.

At the centre of the Spectacular is elite competition, where the nation’s finest horses and their handlers vie for top honours.

Among them is The Thistle, Australia’s official Clydesdale Championship title, introduced in 2023 and now considered the pinnacle of heavy horse competition in the Southern Hemisphere. Only one horse can claim it, and the contest is as much about presentation and tradition as it is about power.

But the Spectacular is far more than a horse show.

It is a full-bodied immersion into culture, craft and country life, where the past is not just remembered, but performed.

Scottish heritage pulses through the event, paying tribute to the settlers who brought Clydesdales to the region more than a century ago.

The Calling of the Clans, massed pipes and drums, and traditional caber tossing create an atmosphere that feels part Highland gathering, part country fair.

This year also brings a few new faces … and hooves.

Miniature Highland cows from Northview Highlands and donkeys from Wyllie Donkey Stud will make their debut, offering hands-on experiences for families and adding a charming counterpoint to the towering draught horses in the main arena.

Beyond the spectacle, the event continues to deliver real impact.

Tens of thousands of visitors are drawn to the region, injecting millions into the local economy.

Yet for many, the true value of the Spectacular can’t be measured in numbers.

It’s in the moment a child reaches out to pat a horse larger than they imagined.

It’s in the rumble of hooves pulling a carriage through the arena.

It’s in the pride of a tradition not lost, but lived.
